Inside the House

2010 was the Women's Housing Coalition’s first year our ladies brought you their stories through our blog. 2011 brings you five different residents of the WHC that are sharing their every day lives as they move toward self-sufficiency. You will find that many of the challenges they face are things we all face, to one degree or another. Looking for a job, caring for children or grandchildren, celebrating happy occasions are in all of our lives.

The WHC hopes you will follow the women who are writing throughout the year as they confront issues and experience success.

How have you been?  I just wanted to first say "Happy belated Mother's Day".  I had a beautiful Mother's Day.  I went to spend time with my mother and daughter this mother's day and had a beautiful time.  My mother's birthday was on May 7th and Mother's Day was the following day so we planned a suprise birthday/mother's day party for my mother.  She has never had a suprise birthday party and she just turned 74 so a good time was had by all.  On another subject, a serious one, our friend, Dee, has had 2 strokes and is on the ICU unit at University of Maryland Me

Good Morning
Just wanted to take a brief minute to tell you about our new Health Suite, it is so beautiful and the staff at the health suite are so friendly and informative. I personally don't like going to the doctor's, however WHC has made it possible for me to enjoy a doctor's visit.

Just a little "food for thought", DON'T PRAY FOR PATIENCE... GOD HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR!!!!    I followed my own advice and went to a dinner and dance with a friend that didn't have anything to do with the 12 steps.  I had a great time but also came to one realization.......

Hey everybody is the weather a pain or what?  I don't know whether to pull out my spring clothes or leave my sweaters on the shelf.  Lately I have been trying to correspond with one of my sisters, she's the glass half empty one.  I think that it would be easier to nail jello to a wall.  It's like trying to talk sense to her and she hears and reads what's not there, even when you draw a crystal clear picture.  Of course the person I am, I shoot straight from the hip and don't candy coat anything and that doesn't go over real well because it's not what s

How has everyone been doing this past week?  I have been in a real positive mood.  I suppose it is the change in the weather.  I tend not to be as outgoing in the winter months.  It's almost as though I am part bear.   In the winter I'd rather be hibernating.  Thank God for the warm weather.  Right now I'm doing a happy dance.  I am also trying to figure out how to meet people.  I didn't have a problem while I was in treatment but as we all know life goes on after treatment and I've been putting off

It's easy to get caught up in the day to day humdrum of life.  You know I've been watching this Charlie Sheen mess and where there are alot of people amused by his antics, I can only see my "old self" in him and it saddens me and scares me at the same time.  Active addiction is so awful and overwhelming, that I feel truly blessed that I can say that that I found my way to the other side.  I thank God on a daily basis for the second, third, fourth chances I've been given in life.  There for the grace of God go I!!  I think that we, all of us, could learn somet
