Committee Involvement

If you were able to join us at the May fundraiser “A View From My Room”, our Executive Director, Beth Benner, discussed how we can’t do it without you. This is really true! We love your financial support but we also love what you can do to help in this great mission. 

Your question may be… what can I do? Maybe your question is can I do more? In addition, to financial support and volunteer work day opportunities, some people support us by joining a committee. The board of directors has six standing committees and one sub-committee; they are:

  • BOARD DEVELOPMENT: Solicits potential Board members, recruits individuals, and recommends a slates of officers
  • FINANCE: Provides oversight on long-range financial plans for the financial stability of the organization
  • FUND DEVELOPMENET: Leads the development and implementation of comprehensive fundraising strategy
  • FUN: A sub-committee of the Fund Development Committee that focuses on friend-raising and fundraising events, like Yoga in the Vines on June 12th or Hops for Housing on September 22nd
  • HOUSING: Provides information, guidance and advice concerning the maintenance and operation of physical assets and resources and requirements for new and expanded housing programs
  • PERSONNEL: Plans and implements Human Resources structures and systems that promote and sustain growth. Serves as a resource to the Executive Director on personnel matters
  • PROGRAM COMMITTEE: Develops quality programs that lead to measurable positive change in our clients’ lives

Committees are a great way to both serve the organization and learn more about the great work of the Women’s Housing Coalition for yourself. By joining a committee, you can bring your everyday expertise to the Women’s Housing Coalition and develop a great win/win situation. You can share your ideas and expertise with us while learning more about the organization and giving back to the community. Committees typically meet once a month. 

Our program committee helped us review new policies and procedures. The housing committee helped us find and lock in cheaper utility costs and bid the work for improvements to our Calverton building. Future projects/ideas are only limited to your ideas and involvement. Can you help us improve our reach into social media? Are you great at throwing parties or organizing a charity race? There are plenty of ways we would benefit from your talents.

If you have experience in social services, construction, finance, health/medical issues or even if you just know a lot of people who care about Baltimore, you may really enjoy participating in on a committee.
